The Directorate General may of its own initiative
or at the instance of the Board, take up for review
general issues of importance bearing on the working
of the Department. The Board may also refer specific
cases to the Directorate General for advice, investigation
and report. In all these matters it will be open to
the Directorate General to correspond directly with
the Commissioner and call for any comments/remarks
or papers required for completing their enquiries.
The Directorate General of Inspection, Customs
& Central Excise should in addition to the annual
report with regard to the activities of the Director
General, submit regularly monthly reports regarding
the principal activities during the previous month
and the progress made by him in the various items
of work assigned to him including for example, revision
of manuals, field inspections carried out etc.
