In terms of Circular vide F.No.35/33/57-Ad.II dated 16.01.1958, each    Central Excise Commissionerate is to be inspected at least once in
   two years.

Selected Divisions and Ranges will be inspected by Inspecting Officer
under the general direction of the Director General or Addl. Director
General/Addl./Joint/Asstt. Directors would be inspected once in three
years by regional units of DGICCE.

In inspecting ranges and outdoor work generally, attention should be
paid to see whether the officer’s jurisdiction is such as can be
satisfactorily managed and whether he has a correct knowledge and
understanding of the local problems and the application of the rules
   and regulations to these problems.
The Inspecting officers should, during their inspection examine the

officers with a view to pointing out general defects in procedure and
to offer suggestions, if any, of a general nature to ensure uniformity
of procedure and treatment in the various Central Excise
